1.     Mild  elevated aminotransferase (<250 U/L)

•       Hepatic

–      ALT predominant

»      Chronic hepatitis B & C

»      Medication/toxin

»      AIH

»      NASH

»      Metabolic : Hemochromatosis, Wilson’s disease, Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency

»      Some cases of liver tumor and obstruction of bile duct

2.    Moderate  elevated aminotransferase (250-1000 U/L)

–      Found in  variety of liver diseases :

•       Drug

•       Virus

•       autoimmune hepatitis

•       Wilson’s disease

•       Acute biliary tract obstruction

              3. Marked elevated aminotransferase (>1,000-2000 U/L)

–      Drug and Toxic substance (paracetamol, CCl₄)

–      Ischemic hepatitis, acute Budd-Chiari Syndrome

–      Acute viral hepatitis(rarely>2000-3000U/L)
